StatusSymbol

Designed by CastaliaLab. Printed worldwide.

StatusSymbol is how CastaliaLab explores the freest side of design: original objects, unexpected mechanisms, and ideas made to become physical.

Designs born in our studio reached an international community. They have been downloaded more than 172,000 times and turned into over 83,000 physical objects by people around the world.

Some went viral. Others won international contests. Five were selected as Featured Models on MakerWorld.

All of them started the same way: from an idea worth making real.

Recognised by the leading international communities

StatusSymbol projects have received numerous awards on the reference platforms for design made for 3D printing.

Awards given not to a single aesthetic, but to different ideas, mechanisms and objects: the result of a design search that continues today.

The public chose to print them

StatusSymbol is not a collection designed at a desk.

Every model starts from curiosity: an unusual motion, a mechanism to simplify, an interaction that can surprise, or an object that does not exist yet.

Once published, these projects began to travel: downloaded and printed as they are, on thousands of machines in Europe, America and Asia.

Their success was not planned. It was chosen by the public.

Mechanical Dice: internal mechanism and die face

A die you do not roll: you actuate.

Press the button and the internal mechanism moves, generating a new result. An immediate gesture that turned a familiar object into one of StatusSymbol’s most recognisable designs.

With over 34,000 prints made and 4,657 reviews, Mechanical Dice was adopted by a community far larger than the one it was imagined for.

Iris Container: vane diaphragm opening and closing

Iris Container

A container built around its own motion. Turn the structure and the vanes slide together until the central iris opens or closes.

The project has surpassed 7,000 prints, becoming one of StatusSymbol’s most loved designs worldwide.

Predator Grabber: three articulated fingers

Three articulated fingers close around the object in a single movement.

Predator Grabber comes from the meeting of science-fiction imagery, three-dimensional modelling and mechanics: not a copy of something that already existed, but an idea turned directly into a working object.

From that experiment came more than 3,200 prints worldwide.

Small Mechanical Counter: number wheels and crank

An object designed to work, not to make noise: a fully mechanical miniature counter.

Each turn of the crank advances the number wheels. No display, no electronics: only the visible motion of the mechanism.

On Reddit it passed almost one million views and more than eleven thousand likes.

The freest part of CastaliaLab

StatusSymbol is the space where we design without a brief, explore new interactions, and take an idea all the way to a physical object.

The same studio, the same designers, and the same habit of looking for solutions that do not exist yet.

When the starting point is a product, a component, or a concrete need, the project takes shape at CastaliaLab.
